  LEADING US TO THE FUTURE

  Message from Mayor Toni Harp.

  Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Housing Authority of the City of New Haven’s Elm City Communities web site. Elm City Communities offers much needed affordable housing and related services to more than 5,000 families throughout the City of New Haven. Engaged in an aggressive modernization and redevelopment program, Elm City Communities is reinvigorating its developments and redefining neighborhoods, thereby offering housing of choice to the City’s population in need of affordable housing. The City is proud to partner with Elm City Communities and supports its efforts.

In New Haven, we like to say, “It all happens here.” If you are considering a home in New Haven, Elm City Communities may have an option for you. I encourage you to consider Elm City Communities, which offers affordable homes for families with children, disabled and elderly residents. Through its low-income public housing, tax credit and Housing Choice Voucher programs, Elm City Communities offers housing in neighborhoods throughout the City.

Elm City Communities provides a full array of supportive services geared toward improving adult job skills and job readiness, educational pursuits, youth programming, budgeting and financial management and mental health and addiction case management services.

Together, the City and Elm City Communities are building great neighborhoods. As you explore the web site, you will find information on the housing and services offered, the redevelopment program, contracting opportunities and employment opportunities. As you explore New Haven, I encourage you to “Consider Elm City Communities.”

  Very truly yours,
  Mayor Harp

Message from Karen DuBois-Walton, Executive Director

  Dear Friends,

Welcome to the Housing Authority of the City of New Haven (Elm City Communities) Web site. We're glad to make it easier than ever to find information on HANH and the housing and services it offers.

These are challenging times, for those who need affordable housing and I am proud that despite the tough economic climate, Elm City Communities is rising above those challenges to create vibrant mixed-income/mixed-finance neighborhoods, help low-income residents achieve self-sufficiency, and provide affordable housing options in a time of need. We are redefining ourselves and the services that we provide.

As a Moving to Work agency, we are afforded flexibility that allows experimentation with new and innovative ways of delivering services. It allows HANH the flexibility to invest in our properties to build new, attractive housing and to transform existing buildings into upgraded facilities. It allows us to invest in our residents and participants to create multiple pathways to greater economic self sufficiency and opportunity. It allows us to find more economical and efficient ways of delivering our services.
In seeking to make these opportunities available to a broader audience, HANH introduces its newly designed website. It is my hope that you will navigate the site and find essential information for existing residents and participants as well as those looking for housing. If you already do business with HANH, it is my hope that this will be a useful tool to assist you and if you are looking to do business that you might find the necessary resources to begin.

  Thank you for visiting!
Karen DuBois-Walton

Message from Erik Clemons, Chairman, Board of Commissioners

Dear Friends,

As Chair of the Board of Commissioners for the Housing Authority of the City of New Haven, I am pleased to welcome you to HANH’s new website. The site is designed to provide easy access to information on the affordable housing and services offered by HANH. Having been involved with HANH for many years, I see first-hand the investment made in the lives of New Haven families in need of safe, quality affordable places to live. These investments, whether in the revitalization of the housing developments or in the family self-sufficiency activities provided to families, are sound investments with clearly identifiable benefits. The HANH Board of Commissioners supports the efforts of the agency and provides oversight to ensure its goals and mandates are met. Our meetings are public and constituents are welcome to join us every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 4:00 pm at the Board Room, 3rd floor, 360 Orange St., New Haven, CT.

Sincerely,
Erik Clemons
Chair
